Re: Drag Race Build: 95 Tsi AWD: Automagic
Im from central alabama, and yeah thicker metal will make it alot easier. best way i can explain what was happening to you is as you continued your weld the piece as well as the surrounding metal were absorbing heat rapidly thus raising the temp closer and closer to its melting point until the point at which the puddle was absorbing the metal in large quantities. Oh and another little trick to it is speed, thin metal must be welded at a much faster rate from my experience.

Will likely be repainting mine asap. the guys did it without my consent at the shop and it is horribly done. Might just strip it, shave a little here and there then weld on my AN fittings, after that powder coated in an anodized color.. cant decide blue or purple

Got a lot done today. First i finished wetsanding the valve cover and clear coated it, as well as the intake. Put the intake on and did the free fiav bypass (i will make a tech article) to the throttle body and put that on. Painted the block orange and the oil pan black. Lastly i put the fuel rail, injectors, egr blockoff, and mdp map sensor adaptor on.

Looking really nice, Textured lettering was a cool idea as well. Cant wait to see you fire this thing up for the first time.

Re: Drag Race Build: 95 Tsi AWD: Automagic
Started doing body work. I bondoed the engine bay and the hatch. I found out im going to have to bondo pretty much the whole right side of the hatch to smooth it out. Also, the strut tower rust i fixed, turned up again. I bondoed the part i fixed, and as i was sanding it, right next to one of my welds there was a high spot. Took the grinder to it and it went right through. So now i have to fix that rot. The rest of the enginebay is turning out great so far. Im in no means anywhere near done with the hatch nor engine bay. Heres some pics.
